Peggy Otum, Co-Chair, Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Practice; Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP
Peggy Otum is co-chair of WilmerHale's Energy Environment and Natural Resources group. Ms. Otum brings more than 18 years of diverse experience advising large corporations, public companies and universities on a host of environmental issues, including those related to climate change, with a primary emphasis on matters involving compliance, crisis response and risk management, enforcement defense, and litigation.
Ms. Otum routinely advises clients in response to investigations by, or inquiries from, a range of federal and state regulators, including the US Environmental Protection Agency, the US Department of Justice, the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB), California's Division of Occupational Safety and Health (better known as Cal/OSHA), and the California Environmental Protection Agency. Additionally, Ms. Otum advises companies on issues at the intersection of environmental protection, racial equity and corporate governance.
Ms. Otum has been consistently ranked by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers, and Legal 500, among others, and is noted for her "robust command of the law and nuances, as well as the political dimensions of negotiations" and her "ability to handle matters with strength and diplomatic skill."
Ms. Otum serves on the Board of Directors for the Bar Association of San Francisco and chairs the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank's 2020 Food From the Bar Campaign. She is a fellow of the American College of Environmental Lawyers, as well as a board member for the Environmental Law Institute and chairs the organization's San Francisco Women in Environmental Law and Leadership group.
